Privacy policy
What we process, why, and what you can ask us to do.
About this policy
This policy explains what information Pronto Portuguese processes when you use the app and this website, why we process it, and what you can do about it. It applies worldwide. It is written in plain language and does not cover every detail of every law that may apply to you.
Who we are
Pronto Portuguese is an independent, privately operated web app for learning European Portuguese. It is not a registered company. We refer to it as “Pronto Portuguese”, “we” or “us” in this policy.
What information is processed
Account-related information, such as the email address and account details needed to create your account, sign you in, and keep your access tied to your login. Learning progress, such as which chunks and lessons you have practised, your review schedule, streak and app settings. Usage and analytics data, such as basic information about how the app is used, to understand what works and what needs improving. Messages you send us, such as anything you write in the contact form.
Payments
Payments are handled by Stripe. Payment details such as card numbers are processed by Stripe and are not stored by Pronto Portuguese. Stripe receives the information needed to take the payment and to handle refunds, receipts and fraud prevention.
Service providers
The app runs on the Base44 platform, which provides hosting, the database, accounts and sign-in. Stripe provides payment processing. These providers process data on our behalf so the service can work. We do not sell your personal data.
Microphone and speech features
The pronunciation exercises use your browser's built-in speech recognition and your browser's built-in Portuguese voice. Audio recordings and transcripts are not stored by Pronto Portuguese. Your browser may show its own microphone permission prompt; you can decline or revoke that permission at any time in your browser settings, and the pronunciation exercise simply will not score you while the microphone is off.
Advertising and tracking
We do not share personal data for advertising and the app does not show ads. We do not collect personal data through third-party advertising networks.
Children
The app is open to users of any age. If a child uses the app, we encourage a parent or guardian to be involved. If you believe a child's personal data has been provided and you would like it removed, send us a message through the contact form.
How long data is kept
Your account, progress and settings are kept while your account exists, so the service can work across devices and sessions. When you ask us to delete your data, we delete what we hold. Some records, such as payment records held by Stripe, may be kept by the provider where it needs them for legal, tax or fraud-prevention purposes.
Your requests
You can ask us questions about your data, ask what is held, or ask for your data to be deleted, by sending a message through the contact form. We read every message and reply by email.
Where data is handled
The service is available worldwide. Because we use providers such as Base44 and Stripe, data may be processed in countries other than your own. Those providers apply their own safeguards and security measures to the data they process.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. The latest version is always published on this page.
